Together, these two varieties represent the perfect pairing for growing kale. Sow kale seeds from March to June, planting them directly outdoors into a well-prepared seedbed for future transplanting. Sow at a depth of 1cm and maintain a spacing of 23cm between rows. Kale plants can be transplanted into their final positions approximately five weeks after sowing. Ideal growing conditions include firm, rich, fertile soil that is well-drained, ideally in full sun or semi-shade. In early spring, enhance the soil by adding plenty of well-rotted farmyard manure to improve its structure and fertility. Apply lime to acidic soils to reduce acidity and minimise the risk of clubroot. When transplanting, position the kale slightly deeper in the ground than it was in the seedbed, spacing the plants 60cm apart. Use protective netting or fleece to shield the plants from birds and insects, and water them thoroughly after planting. Refer to individual seed packets for additional instructions.
