Set in a dark, dark house on a dark, dark hill, each short, rhythmic story blends gentle spooky fun with laugh-out-loud humour, making the books perfect first reads for little ones who enjoy a mild scare followed by a cosy, silly ending. A wonderful introduction to a nursery-shelf classic loved across generations. About the Books The much-loved Funnybones series began with the original picture book by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, introducing three cheerful skeletons who live in a dark, dark cellar and set out looking for someone to scare. This eight-book set brings together eight favourite follow-up adventures, each a short, self-contained story built around the same simple, repetitive, dark-dark-house structure that has delighted young readers for decades. In Bumps in the Night, the skeletons bump about in the dark until Doctor Bones has to be called; in Dinosaur Dreams, they are chased by dinosaurs until a friendly dog saves the day; and in Give the Dog a Bone, the dog skeleton comically falls apart bone by bone. Mystery Tour sends the trio driving through a string of small mysteries, while Skeleton Crew has them shipwrecked by pirates. The Black Cat brings sledging fun and a sneaky feline visitor, The Ghost Train takes readers on a midnight fairground ride, and The Pet Shop follows a mission to swap the dog skeleton for a new pet. Every book is brightly illustrated with short, repeated phrases that build early reading confidence, ideal for bedtime, classroom storytime, or a child's first independent reads. Eight complete Funnybones paperback stories in one great-value set Short, rhythmic, repetitive text builds confidence in early readers Bright, bold illustrations bring the skeleton characters to life Gentle spooky-fun themes are exciting without being frightening Ideal for bedtime reading, classrooms, and school libraries A perfect gift set for young children aged 3-5 About the Author Allan Ahlberg is one of Britain's best-loved children's authors, having published over 100 children's books across his career.
